Gathering to celebrate Eid al Adha
On Saturday, 4th of October, 2014, muslims from all over the world celebrated Eid ul Adha. Muslims of Kaunas started this special day by gathering in the mosque for congregational prayer. They left their homes early in the morning, dressed in their best clothes and in high spirits. All morning till the start of the prayer mosque was drowned in the chanting of the words of glorifying and thanking Allah for all the blessings and favours He has bestowed upon them. After the prayer and sermon were over, everyone exchanged greetings and hugged each other wishing „Eid Mubarak“.
While men enjoyed cakes and rushed to other cities to offer a sacrifice of a cow, ram, or lamb, women continued celebration in the mosque with lots of fun, chatting, laughing, delicious sweets and snacks for all of them and children, as well as Islamic quiz to test each others‘ knowledge about Eid ul Adha.
Muslim are especially generous on Eid. They are willingly giving charity as they wish to help poor people buy new clothes and food so they too can celebrate. The meat from the sacrifice also will be distributed among the families, friends and poor muslims in the area.
This holiday is celebrated around the world, and some traditions may slightly different, but the devotion and honor of Allah remains the same during Eid ul Adha around all muslims‘ communities. For muslims of Kaunas it was a day of sharing smiles and happiness, being together in worship and enjoyment.
