Meeting of Kaunas city muslim religious community members
Meeting of Kaunas city muslim religious community members
Life of muslims does not stop in the month of Ramadan. During such a special time, on 27th of May, 2018 activities of Kaunas muslim religious community in 2017-2018 were presented to the members of the community.
The chairman of the community presented the report of his activities, notified how he had succeeded in solving the main issues of the community, what works had he done during this time and how relevant projects to the community were implemented. It was noted that the activity of the community was organized by the three members of the Board and it is nice to see that community managed to implement many beautiful projects this year, which satisfy both the interests of the community members and the public. Some of the most important projects are the renovation of Kaunas mosque, environment management project, consulting Lithuanian public institutions (gymnasiums and universities), contracts with volunteers to organize religious activities, preparation of evening meal (Iftar) with which muslims end their daily Ramadan fast and serving free meals to 50 people, organization of two major religious holidays.
The chairman of the community noted that the list of active members progressively increased from January, 2018. Although there are still few active members, but this annual meeting has showed that members of the community are interested in religious activities and they want to improve the image of the community and mosque in Kaunas so that it would not stay as a closed, secret ghost object of the city with devastated fountain and abandoned territory.
After discussing the activities of the community and its results, an interim treasurer of the Kaunas city muslim religious community presented a financial report, which was prepared by an independent accounting company. It was noted that the community was mostly supported by private donations, however Lithuanian institutions (Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture, Kaunas City Municipality) and foreign embassies contributed as well. Without all their attention and care, Kaunas mosque would not have been as it is now – everything changes to a better side. All incomes and expenses were declared in the tax system of the State Tax Inspectorate. The community believes that transparency improves relations between institutions.
Activities and works done by the Chairman and the community were evaluated positively by the participants of the meeting. Other relevant issues related to the activity of the community were touched as well and they were peacefully resolved using islamic teachings and wisdom.
After all reports, further planned activities in 2018-2019 were presented. Members of the community expressed their wish to enhance the activities of the community by organizing more religious lessons for children and adults, organizing doors open days in Kaunas mosque, cooperating with human rights organizations, participating and supporting charitable foundations or other social projects.
At the end of the meeting members of the community discussed a little bit more about the month of Ramadan, near future plans and goals. Afterwards some left, while others remained in the mosque waiting for Asr prayer.
