Lecture to students about Islam in Vilnius Vocational Education and Training Centre of Technology and Business
On 20th April, 2016 we were invited to Vilnius Vocational Education and Training Centre of Technology and Business, where one member of our religious community – Egyptian, Muslim – is studying. This encouraged the administration of this education institution to organize preventive-informative project „Islam in Lithuania“ and tell to the youth about Muslims, their history, culture, traditions and religion.
We are all afraid of what we do not know. That is why that day everyone gathered there with a purpose to develop tolerance and dispel stereotypes about Muslims and their faith through knowledge. Students, teachers and everyone who was there listened to our lecture about Islam and history of it in Lithuania. During the representation people wanted to know more about pillars of Islam and iman: the virtues of the prayer, purposes of zakat and fasting, life after death and others. They also were interested in life and history of Lithuanian Muslims community and influence of Soviet times to their faith and its practise.
Project organizers also invited to see exhibition „Islam in Lithuania“ which features photographs taken by Neringa Rekasiute who also participated and told about her experience of breaking her own stereotypes about religion of Islam and Muslims.
Thank you for the invitation to represent and tell about our faith.
